B'nai Mitzvah
B'nai Mitzvah
“The world rests on three things: study, worship, and acts of loving kindness.” ~ Pirke Avot
A Bar Mitzvah (for a boy) or Bat Mitzvah (for a girl) marks a young person's transition to religious adulthood, where they become responsible for their own Jewish practices, joining the community as "children of the commandment". The journey to become a B'nai Mitzvah involves study of Hebrew and Torah, leading prayers, reading from the Torah and Haftarah, and delivering a personal lesson, known as the D'var Torah.
To fulfill the G’milut Chasadim requirement of B’nai Mitzvah study, students choose a Mitzvah Project and learn what it means to be part of a community by finding ways to contribute. Each student finds the right program that captures their passion and compassion for certain causes. We ask them to choose an issue that is meaningful to them.
